Interestingly, the pandemic has led to some interesting new vocabulary. “Social distancing” is not a phrase often heard before. “Furlough” (ERTE) was previously when American soldiers went home for a holiday, and “lockdown” seems to have skipped the phrasal verb stage and gone straight to becoming a noun.
The Covid crisis also led to the cancellation of our annual end-of-year celebrations. This is the open evening in which we buy a tortilla from the bar around the corner and have a few beers and glasses of wine. It’s a good opportunity for members from different groups, who don’t normally cross paths, to meet up.
Eventually, we managed to finish the trimester with a few face-to-face classes. Fortunately for us, being used to dealing with small groups, adapting to the “new normality” (another new phrase we have become familiar with) has not been too problematic.
The new office layout with more space and plentiful supplies of hand sanitizer.
